This super fun Monkey Cake was a Valentine's surprise for Rachel's husband Brooks who she refers to as "Monkey". Isn't that so sweet!? The monkey's head is made from rice krispy treats, covered in fondant. His body is made from 4 6" chocolate cakes with chocolate buttercream filling and covered in fondant.

Owl Cake and cupcakes!
This cute owl cake and matching cupcakes were for Noah's first birthday! His mommy sent me a picture of a "girly" owl cake, so I went off of that general design, but made it more boy-ish and rustic. The cupcakes were red velvet, marble, and confetti- with sprinkles and buttercream to match. The actual smash cake was a white cake made out of 6" cakes, and covered in matching fondant made to look "stitched together".

Thing 1 and Thing 2 Cat in the Hat Cake
This fun cake is for Landon and Ashton's first birthday! The theme of their party is "thing 1 and thing 2" from The Cat in the Hat! The big cake is an 8" chocolate cake with buttercream filling covered in blue fondant, and the "hat" is made from 4" confetti cake (with red and blue sprinkles) and covered in red and white fondant! The two little smash cakes are also 4" confetti cakes. The Thing 1 and Thing 2 on the big cake are painted onto gumpaste with food coloring.

Birds Nest Cake
Isn't this cake so fun??! It is a 6" chocolate cake with buttercream filling, covered in a sky blue fondant for a special birthday. The client's dear friend loves birds, so she requested a "bird" cake. I thought it would be super cool to make a chocolate nest! The birdie is made out of fondant, as are the leaves and flowers. It just makes me happy to look at!

Armadillo Cake
Now this cake was definitely a little out of my comfort zone! For one- I don't get a lot of requests to do animals/3-d sculpted, and two- armadillos scare the ever loving buttercream out of me!! But this Birthday Cake was for my neighbor, who I now know goes by "The Diller Killer" and all he wanted for his birthday was an armadillo cake. His wife requested the bullet holes- so that will be a nice little surprise for him.
The grass portion is a 10" square red velvet with cream cheese filling, covered in green buttercream, and the armadillo himself is also red velvet- yes think "Steel Magnolias". He is covered in ivory fondant, which I texturized, airbrushed, and luster dusted. He has little fondant ears, feet and tail, and face. How can he look so cute and cuddly- whilst dead, and covered in bullet holes??? That takes talent people :)

Drew and Dave's Vintage Inspired Wedding Cake
Last weekend I had the distinct pleasure of making this beautiful wedding cake for Drew and Dave. Drew and I discussed designs and looked at pictures of cakes she was drawn to, and she decided on this particular cake- which I love! It is a 12" 9" 6" cake- bottom tier Key Lime Blueberry cake with fresh blueberries and buttercream filling, top 2 tiers mocha chip with chocolate buttercream filling. The cake is covered in ivory fondant, and top tier is covered in lots and lots of little fondant flowers. The flowers were all hand made and luster dusted with 4 different shades to go with the vintage feel of the cake! Drew and Dave also requested 8 dozen mini cupcakes- they are coconut with chocolate buttercream and chocolate confetti with chocolate buttercream.

Art Party Cake
I really adore this art party cake!! Kinsey's mom had contacted me about doing a cake for a 5th Birthday "Art" Party. She already had sooo many precious goodies/treats/invites that she shared with me, I knew the cake had to live up to the rest of the party!! :) It is a 6" & 8" stacked - the top tier is all confetti (how cute will that be when they cut into it!?) and the bottom tier is "tuxedo" chocolate, confetti, chocolate with buttercream filling. The cake is covered in white fondant with lots of fun fondant details: paint brushes, paint palette, crayons, "Kinsey Crayons", and paint splatters!
Hopefully this cake fills up all those little "starving artists"!! :)

Psychedelic Cake
I am calling this the psychedelic cake, because well, I'm not sure what else to call it! It is based off a cake that can be found on the gallery of my website. I have to admit, the original cake I made a very long time ago when I was first getting started- so I wanted to do an "upgraded" version of the original cake. The fondant is a "tie dye" technique over an 8" square chocolate cake with buttercream filling. The rest of the details- flowers, swirls, dots etc are also made from fondant.

Black and Red Burlesque Cake
I am calling this cake the "Burlesque" Cake- but it was actually for an awesome party thrown for Jenna Rabideau who owns Halo Salon on Camp Bowie, Halo Brides Hair & Makeup, and her newest venture "Halo Artists Group"- a DFW talent agency that specializes in all the "behind the scene" talents: hair/makeup/photography/set design etc. The party was a joint birthday and launch of Halo Artists Groupe- showcasing all their great work! The party theme was kind of a mixture of circus/burlesque/oddities, and Jenna requested the cake be black and red. I had so much fun making this cake! I love when clients give me free range to basically do whatever I want along the lines of the theme. The tiny top quilted tier, and red and black striped tier were both almond cake with buttercream filling. The black tier which had a "fishnet" texture, and red lace border was a 9" red velvet cake with cream cheese filling, and the bottom harlequin cake was a 12" quadruple chocolate cake- chocolate chocolate chip cake, chocolate buttercream with drizzled chocolate!! The roses were made of fondant, airbrushed, disco/sparkle/and luster dusted, along with black glitter leaves.

Navy Cake
This cake was made for Bob, whose granddaughter Brigette is in the navy in Seattle. She runs the nuclear reactors that power the ship, U S S John C Stennis. It is a nuclear aircraft carrier, with a crew of 5,000. Brigette will be deploying to the far east for 8 months.
The cake is an 8" old fashioned sour cream cake with buttercream filling and frosting, covered in fondant. I have to give a major shoutout to my brother, Brian, who is home visiting for a while-- and boy did I put him to work-- he painted the aircraft carrier for me!! Oh did I mention, he's a veterinarian!??!? I know, I know- I wish he would just ditch that crappy career path and join me in my cake ventures!! The aircraft carrier was painted on gumpaste with food coloring.
Thank you to Brigette and everyone else serving in our military!!!!

The crab, "1", octopus, starfish, waves & fishies are all made out of fondant. The sand is turbinado sugar.

Texas Longhorn Cake
This client wanted a red velvet cake in the shape of the UT Longhorn covered in burnt orange fondant for her boyfriend's birthday. It was made from an 8" square, but cut out in the shape to feed at least 6.

Doctors Lab Coat Graduation Cake
This is a 9X13 marble cake with chocolate BC filling. The entire cake is covered in fondant to create the lab coat, shirt, tie, stethoscope, and badge! I typically prefer not to do "sheet cakes", but this is one is definitely fun and unique!

Cupcake Cake for a 1st Birthday
Here is a cute little cake for Kamden's first birthday. It is actually for a photo shoot- This must be a new trend because I have received a few requests for this lately. You take your smash cake and get professional photos the "smash-age"! It sounds fun to me...! The cake is white cake with buttercream filling, frosting and covered in fondant.

Indulge Magazine Fort Worth May 2011 Issue Springtime Flower Pot Cake
So Leah's Sweet Treats will be featured in the May Issue of Indulge Magazine among some other foodies (and then hopefully republished later in the Star Telegram) and I just dropped off this awesome cake to the Star Telegrams offices to be photographed for the issue! I'm not sure how much will actually be published about Leah's Sweet Treats or if they are taking a variety of pictures and which will be chosen, but let's hope this cake makes it to print! They requested a "Springtime" theme since it is the May issue so I decided to go with a flower pot theme with tons of bright flowers and "springy" colors. I have to admit I am really in love with this cake and this is kind of "me in a nutshell" when it comes to cake artistry. This is the kind of project I loooove to do, and having no restraints is always a plus! In honor of my awesome friend Jackie "Jackleen" Collins I had to put some cute little pink lady bugs crawling around.
It is a real cake- the flower pot is confetti with buttercream filling and the bottom tier is chocolate chocolate chip also with buttercream filling. The cakes are covered with fondant and all the leaves/flowers/ladybugs are also made out of fondant.
Happy Spring!! (This weather rocks!!)
