Vegas Cake & Cupcakes

This Cake and Cupcakes were made for an auction for a Walnut Creek Elementary school. The theme of the night was "Viva Las Vegas"! I didn't get a picture of the cakes & cupcakes together and set up because they had to be kept in the fridge since they would not be up for auction until the end of the night. If you can't tell the cupcakes spell out Viva Las Vegas :)
The cake was a checkerboard chocolate and white cake (when you cut into it it literally looks like a checkerboard) with buttercream filling & fondant details on the outside of the cake. The cupcakes are a delicious southern red velvet recipe (with my SECRET ingredient) and a fluffy cream cheese buttercream w/ fondant letters!

"Hello Leah I just wanted to thank you for the fabulous cake last

night. We bought the cake and everyone at the table had nothing but

great things to say about your cupcakes. They were moist and pretty

and tasted fabulous. I personally loved your cream cheese frosting.

We were all fully impressed with the fact that the cake looked so

smooth and beautiful without being covered in a full sheet of fondant.

Just thought I would let you know that all you time and effort was

apreciated. And we will remeber you for our future cake needs."

Semifreddi's Bday Cake

This sheet cake is for another Semifreddi's employee birthday celebration.
To be honest, sheet cakes are the hardest thing for me to do!! Not because they are technically "hard" in fact, they are probably the easiest thing to do! And that's the problem! A sheet cake is a sheet cake is a sheet cake, and to make it look fun, modern & exciting and not like a boring ole grocery store sheet cake is actually kind of hard!
Anyhow, I think this one has some flair for a sheet cake! It is a chocolate cake, w/ espresso buttercream, whipped cream frosting, and buttercream details!

It is a traditional German Chocolate cake w/ a little twist- the cake is made with egg whites folded in- giving it a light and fluffy texture! The cake is actually also covered in a chocolate buttercream underneath the traditional gooey yummy caramel/coconut/pecan frosting for even extra YUM!!

Holiday Treats!

Here are just a few of the Holiday Treats that were made this season!

These were 24 Mini Eggnog Loaves. They are much like an eggnog flavored pound cake. All the cards were decorated and ribbon wrapped by hand- what a fun and festive gift for neighbors, coworkers & friends!

These were just a select few out of the !!hundreds!! of "Great Grandma Holliday's Christmas Cookies" Yes, my great grandma's last name really was Holliday and yes, they really are a secret family recipe ;)! They are decorated with a delicious sour cream icing and sprinkles.
This Christmas Cake was a 9" White & Chocolate 4 layer cake- but the secret surprise was that the white layers were colored red & green so when you cut into it the inside was even more festive than the outside! ((Pictures of cut cake to come soon!)) It had a chocolate buttercream filling with crushed holiday chocolate candies in each layer! The outside is decorated with buttercream and fondant details.

Month of November

Boy have I been busy the past month (and out of town!) Well, the holidays are a time for family- and that is what I have been up to! Today I am going to feature some of my sweet treats that I have been sharing with my family and friends from Halloween, Thanksgiving, a trip home to TX, and more!

Here is a picture of Robbie, 10, one of the kids I babysit for enjoying a pumpkin & cream cheese cupcake on Halloween!
Although you can't see the actual treats-- Let me tell ya they were yummy!!! The first was a mini pumpkin pecan loaf with a brown sugar streussel, and the second- pumpkin sour cream bars with chocolate chips, walnuts & a brown butter icing.

Here is a picture of me with my apple raspberry pie before it went in the oven! It was made with a cinnamon crust & a turbinado sugar glaze!
Here is the pie on Thanksgiving- so crispy, flaky & delicious!!
This is a (poor) shot of the most delicious pumpkin pie I have ever made/eaten!! It was a cream cheese pumpkin filling with an almond spice whipped cream.. MMMMMM!!Here is a picture of my Dad & I during my trip home to TX. It was his birthday-- he is a chocolaholic can you tell???
It was a chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese fudge filling, ganache & semisweet chocolate chunks on the outside!
Unfortunately my trip home was because my beautiful mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in October & was having her surgery. I made her these cream cheese sugar cookies with Royal Icing!!
Watch out for HOLIDAY TREATS soon to come on the blog!!
